Teaching Art History
Engaging Our Inner Life with Art, Cultural History and
The Evolution of Consciousness

What had been revealed to me through spiritual perception as the law of human evolution appeared in clear manifestation before my mind in the development of art.” – Rudolf Steiner, Course of My Life
This online course will present an overview of Art History in eight sessions particularly designed for educators interested in teaching adolescent students. It will include why this subject is important at this age and how it can be presented in a way that engages the young person at a critical time in their inner development. We will explore the History of Art by looking at painting and sculpture from different cultural periods, its significance for the time and how it expresses the evolving consciousness of its period. We will observe the techniques, methods and materials and discuss the stories contained in the pictures on many levels.
Illustrated lectures, conversations and questions, as well as artistic work will provide the pathway for experiencing how art is the family picture album of humanity and an illustrated glimpse into the evolution of consciousness.
